Born in Melbourne, Australia, Michael’s artistic foundation was grounded in a culture of quiet discipline and deep analytical listening. With his father possessing classical musical training from an early age, the family home naturally fostered a profound focus on structural aesthetics. Michael's exceptional auditory capacity first manifested at the age of two during a private gathering; when exposed to live guitar performance and singing, he instinctively clapped and swayed in flawless rhythmic alignment with the pulse of the instrument, revealing the early cognitive markers of a highly gifted musical intellect.

Formal training commenced at age four under the legendary pedagogical lineage of Anatoly Dokumentov, an alumnus of the Moscow Conservatoire. At age twelve, Michael entered the selective Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School (VCASS) to study under Glenn Riddle, a formative period of intense conservatory preparation that forged his unshakeable physical stamina and competitive edge. Concurrently, his vocal agility led to a rare invitation to join the elite VCASS Chamber Choir. For Michael this musical architecture is inextricably linked to the written word; he views literature not merely as an academic pursuit, but as a vital art form that continually informs his broader artistic lineage. This profound reverence for language and rhetoric was formally cultivated during his VCE years at VCASS through the rigorous study of English Literature. It is a lifelong devotion that manifests today in the meticulous, grand prose of his own curation, and a relentless curiosity that sees him—even amidst the turbulence of a demanding international touring schedule—frequently returning to Shakespearean drama, currently re-engaging with the timeless cadences of Romeo and Juliet.

Michael entered the international competitive arena at age fourteen, advancing as a finalist in the International Institute for Young Musicians (IIYM) Competition in the United States and in the same year delivering his orchestral concerto debut with movements from Frédéric Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor, Op. 11. Following his foundational orchestra concerto debut, Michael performed with the Hanoi Symphony Orchestra. His North American footprint expanded further in 2019 through his selection for the elite Summerfest residency at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia.

Upon returning to Australia, Michael read for his Bachelor of Music Performance (Piano) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music under the guidance of Natalia Ricci, graduating with First Class Honours, a Dean's List of Excellence Award, and the coveted Henderson Postgraduate Travellers Scholarship for further studies in Europe. Parallel to this, Michael's artistic development was heavily backed by a multi-year residency and major music scholarship at St Andrew's College within the University of Sydney (2021–2025). Beyond his conservatory honors, his deep integration into collegiate life is marked by his historic victories at the intercollegiate Palladian Cup, where his continuous performance triumphs—headlined by his legendary live, self-composed crowd-interactive improvisations—established a long-standing legacy of creative leadership within the university's most prestigious artistic circles. A notable milestone of this tenure was his co-arrangement with Natalia Ricci of Manuel de Falla's Siete canciones populares españolas for voice and piano, a project highly acclaimed for its sophisticated handling of texture and voice-leading. Equally at home within competitive principal piano chair for the Sydney Conservatorium of Music Wind Symphony's historic 2024 international tour, performing as an orchestral pianist across major venues in Japan and South Korea. Concurrently, he maintained his vocal profile as a core member of the Sydney Conservatorium Chamber Choir. While completing his Honours year, a major professional achievement included Michael's solo debut at the Sydney Opera House, performing as a featured guest artist alongside international neo-classical composer and pianist Daniel Verstappen. In 2024, Michael was awarded a full academic scholarship to Spain's prestigious Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona. He attained his Master’s degree under Àlex Alguacil with the highest institutional honors, recording a perfect 10/10 score in his final graduation recital. His artistic evolution subsequently transitioned into the elite tier of orchestral direction, securing a place in the advanced conducting registry under Maestro Salvador Brotons at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC).

Michael’s conducting and keyboard execution are characterized by a profound, symmetrical authority over the score. In March 2023, he executed a powerful reading of Maurice Ravel's Piano Concerto in G major as soloist with the Sydney Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra under Roger Benedict. This core concerto repertoire was subsequently extended during the Concours International de Piano Alain Marinaro in France, where Michael performed Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 12 in A major, K. 414. Adhering to classical performance traditions of spontaneous creation, he executed self-composed, live improvised cadenzas during the competitive rounds. In November 2025, Michael commanded a major televised production at the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall, serving as both Conductor and Pianist for the historic 50th Anniversary Gala Commemorating Vietnamese Settlement in Australia. Leading a massive, combined symphonic force of the Australian-Vietnamese Youth Orchestra and the BlueScope Youth Orchestra, he directed a high-status program before an esteemed assembly of international diplomats and statesmen, featuring the world premieres of his own large-scale commissioned orchestral arrangements.​ His international pedagogical footprint includes conducting masterclasses across Portugal and Australia, and has been an assistant conductor for Fabian Russell with the Corpus Medicorum Orchestra.

Bridging the classical and commercial cinematic worlds, Michael was engaged as a premier contracted session vocalist for the monumental 20th Anniversary Arena Production of the multi-platinum rock act, Parkway Drive, at the Sydney Opera House. Positioned front and center within the core vocal chamber ensemble, his performance was captured live for an upcoming global cinematic film release.

In September 2026, Michael embarks on a highly anticipated New South Wales recital tour titled "A Percussion Odyssey" alongside virtuoso percussionist Grace Lee. Curated by Inspire Music Australia, the tour highlights the competitive and lyrical dialogues between keyboard and multi-mallet percussion, anchored by Keiko Abe’s monumental Variations on Japanese Children's Songs.

 

Composition and Discography

As a composer, Michael engineers complex intersections between acoustic grand piano, analog synthesizers, and digital technologies. His 2022 live recital concept, "Airs and Surfaces," was widely noted for its innovative integration of multi-instrumental performance mediums.

For his September 2026 tour, Michael has composed an original chamber work, Dialogue for Marimba and Piano. The commission receives its world premiere on this tour, explicitly exploring the acoustic boundaries and shifting sonic architectures shared between the two instruments.
